Sweden Employment Guide

Sweden is in Northern Europe, bordering the Baltic Sea (east), Norway (west) and Finland (north). It has ~10.5 million people; Swedish is official, and Stockholm is the capital. Its highly developed economy is service-led, with globally competitive manufacturing, IT, auto and clean energy sectors. Labor laws (per Working Hours Act) plus collective agreements protect wages, hours, leave and social security. Standard workweek: 40 hours (overtime needs extra pay or time off). Salaries are usually monthly (avg. SEK 37,000 pre-tax). Laws cover paid leave, encourage flexible work and employee participation in corporate decisions, balancing interests for a fair, sustainable labor market.

Paid Time Off (PTO) Policy

Full-time employees at SailGlobal are entitled to 25 days of paid annual leave. This entitlement accrues progressively throughout the year at a rate of 2.08 days per month. The accrual period runs from April 1st to March 31st of the following year.

For part-time staff, PTO is calculated on a pro-rata basis relative to their weekly working schedule. An employee working a standard five-day week receives the full 25-day allowance, while those with reduced schedules receive a proportionally adjusted amount.

Accruing this leave is a mandatory component of compensation, representing approximately 12% of total remuneration. Furthermore, employers are legally required to schedule a continuous four-week block of leave for each employee between June and August.

Public Holidays

SailGlobal employees benefit from 13 designated public holidays annually. These non-working days are consistent with national observances and provide additional paid time off.

  • Easter Sunday
  • Easter Monday

International Comparison: Leave Benefits

Compared to global standards, SailGlobal's leave package is highly competitive. For instance, while the US has no federal mandate for paid vacation, and the UK typically offers 20-25 days, our policy aligns with leading European standards that prioritize work-life balance.
